To do this hike, in this direction and back, as a day hike is no joke. My Jhike, 48, with my oldest son, 20, and youngest son, 13, to Clouds Rest from Happy Isles and back in 12 hours was no different. To the Clouds and back.No words or Pictures.Īnybody who has ever experienced Yosemite knows that no pictures you take or words you speak can do this ridiculously majestic place justice. Of the switchbacks you'll bear right at the first junction and descend for a nice. However, take some breaks and enjoy the beautiful views behind you (they should be motivation enough to continue). ~~~~~ Stick to the left side at the summit if you're afraid of heights and the ridge/spine. However, with breaks you should be alright. The hike in between the last junction and the summit was a bit challenging due Inclines and declines but nothing too crazy.Īfter traveling for a while you'll reach a beautiful and peaceful lake which indicates that you have 3.5 miles left. this part of the hike is steady, you'll be hiking through gorgeous meadows and streams. After the switchbacks, you'll bear right at the first junction and descend for a nice. If you can conquer this part you can do the whole hike. The switchbacks will last for a mile and you'll gain a thousand feet in elevation. After that, you'll reach the granite staircases, which seem to go on for eternity. The first mile and a half is a brisk walk in the park. It started raining with thunderstorms (thankfully we were almost back)!ĭon't want to be caught slipping on the staircases, so don't spend too much time at the summit! This is imperative! Check the weather too, it was sunny all throughout our hike and we didn't check what the forecast I packed very light using just a drawstring bagĬarrying lunch for the summit, snacks, and 2.5L of water. You shouldn't be! I never go to the gym and this hike wasn't as tough as I previously believed. I read all the reviews on here and If you were scared like me, Whether I'd be able to complete this hike (14.5 seems pretty daunting). I was hesitant at first since I wasn't sure I love hiking and CR was def one of the top destinations on my hiking wishlist.
